Because we are contantly moving yachts between the Bahamas and Florida, there are ample opportunities for crew positions. To be really candid, it is easier work for me an my captains to deliver the yachts without novice crew on board, but if there is someone out there willing to pay a modest fee for the learning experience and time with experienced captains, then we are happy to share our experience and make it a learning experience for others.

We currently are getting ready for the Fall migration of Yachts from the Northeast. This is a great learning opportunity for anyone with limited offshore experience. Sailing south to Florida for the Winter may be something you end up doing with your own boat someday.

We focus on making the trip efficient, safe, and cost effective. So this is not really a luxury charter, it is a delivery and the crew have to promise to do as directed by their captain and carry their own weight as part of the team.

Currently our policy regarding cost for this is $250 per person per day fee that we expect to be paid in advance by guest crew, plus provisions. You are responsible for your own transportation to and from the boat. It is pretty expensive to get one of these yachts delivered south, as experienced captains don't come cheap. So your fees are being used to help pay the for the southerly passage. This is meant to be a win win situation for all involved, so please consider this full disclosure.

Annapolis to Key Largo. September 19, 2011 (Lagoon 440)
Departing Annapolis and Sailing near coastal along the inside edge of the Gulf Stream. Two Legs. First stop in Charleston, SC and the final leg on down to Key Largo FL. Each Leg is roughly 4 days depending on weather. Although this will not be a certified US Sailing Coastal Passagemaking, it will be a 360 Yachting Certified Coastal Passagemaking learning experience, using the US Sailing Curriculum. Cost is $400 per person per leg. Private Cabins are not Guaranteed on deliveries

Annapolis to Key Largo. Fall 2011 (Fountaine Pajot Orana 44)
Date is waiting approval from the vessel owner, but will be announced in the next 7 days. All details otherwise are identical to the delivery described above.

Why a Good Opportunity?
In a nutshell, nothing replaces experience. Furthermore, while hopping on some delivery with some unknown unprofessional skipper may seam to be adventurous, it has also proven to be life threatening for many. Its the stuff that you see in the movies. Learning from professional mariners who have proven track records is priceless. US Sailing committees have created a wonderful curriculum that really is the standard operating procedure for professional skippers.

If the trip is international, crew should apply for the US Customs and Border Patrol Local Boaters Option. Bahamas trips will require a passport and proof of return to the US, such as a plane ticket. Likewise for any Bahamians sailing into the US.
